How to Find the Best Dentist

Choosing a dentist can be quite a daunting prospect for some people. There is something intimate about having work done on your teeth, together with a feeling of embarrassment if a dentist finds something wrong. Couple this with trying to find somebody that is competent and friendly, and it is a task and a half!

The same can be said for finding a cosmetic dentist, in order to have specialist work done. A city like Toronto is big and whilst dentist practices abound, it can still be hard to find a Toronto dentist that will suit yours needs.

Basically, you need to look for a dentist that is qualified to do the work that you want performed. One of the best ways to do this is simply to ask members of your social circle. If they have had cosmetic dentistry work done, not only can you ask them what they thought of the dentist, but you can see the result for yourself! (more...)

Health and Beauty

When it comes to oral health, habits go a long way. Good hygiene and regular dental checkups can ensure not only good oral and dental health, but also beautiful teeth. What's more, thanks to the advance in cosmetic procedures, beauty is well within the reach.

Cosmetic procedures in dentistry have been around for many years now. Orthodontic treatments are a way to correct the alignment of teeth which is beneficial from the points of view of health and aesthetics. But we have come a long way from there and today a variety of treatments; including smile makeovers are popular.

Always choose good dental clinics with competent and qualified staff while going in for any cosmetic procedures. Many clinics offer free special smile reports and other consultation services which can give patients an idea as to what treatments could help them. (more...)

I am Uncomfortable in a Dental Chair

Like many people, I do not relish the thought of dental procedures. I have a very good dentist who treats me with respect and explains what he is going to do in a logical manner and yet there is something which fills me with the terrors whenever I have to visit the dentist. Maybe it is an innate thing, as having somebody poking around in your mouth is not a natural position to be in.

That is why I am all for dentistry while you sleep. Knock me out, I say, and the quicker the better.

There is a slight prick while you go under, but a scratch rather than real pain, and then you are off to the land of nod, only to be awoken when that nasty wisdom tooth is out or the dentist has done his dirty deed. (more...)

What Makes your Dentist Worthwhile?

A dentist's profession is to keep your teeth and gums healthy, to fix them when there is a problem, and to encourage you to take preventative action to keep them healthy.

And yet just as a doctor should work on his or her bedside manner, you have to have a good rapport with your dentist as he is, after all, working on a very intimate part of your body.

A good dentist should make you feel that you are special to us. As you are laying on the table with your mouth wide open, which let's face it can be pretty undignified, you do not want to feel like some sort of cash cow but a valued patient. (more...)

Not Having to Wear your Dentures

Many people in later life have to wear dentures, it is a fact of life. As we are living longer and eating different types of foods, our teeth do not naturally last that long and many of us will lose our own teeth as we get older.

A popular choice is removable dentures as they offer much more flexibility to the wearer. They can be removed whenever you want and are kept in with a type of soluble denture glue which keeps them in place when needed – so no accidentally flying out – but allows them to be removed.

This has several advantages for the wearer. The dentures can be taken out at night when they might be uncomfortable to wear and they are also much easier to clean, so they are a far more hygienic option. (more...)

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

I do get asked from time to time what exactly cosmetic dentistry is and quite simply, it is dental work which is done to improve the appearance of the teeth. It covers quite a number of treatments such as braces, teeth whitening, implants and crowns.

According to a guide to cosmetic dentistry, which I recently saw, many people only visit the dentist for emergencies, which seems an about way of doing things. When it comes to health and visiting the doctor, we take preventative measures rather than relying on emergency treatment if we can and we should do the same for our teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry can make a great deal of difference to the way we perceive ourselves and as a result it can have direct results on our confidence levels. If we know that we have bad teeth we are less likely to smile and engage with people. (more...)
